Career Center Resources for Pre-med/Pre-health Students
There is a huge demand for pre-health advising at UC Berkeley so beginning this fall, the pre-health team at Career Center is increasing our resources for pre-health students. We now have two pre-health counselors who are dedicated to working with pre-health students, and two peer advisers who provide a total of more than 12 hours of drop-in advising a week. Here is a brief overview of the great resources we offer:
Advising
The main service that we provide for students at Career Center is our one-on-one advising. Three are 3 ways you can receive our special counseling services for pre-health:
1. Sign up for 30 minute pre-health appointments with pre-health counselors at Career Center. They can help you with everything from preparations for a health career to questions about the application process. This type of appointment can also be a mock interview if you request it when you sign up. (sign up on Callisto)
2. Visit drop-in hours with pre-health counselors at 3060 VLSB (reserve a spot on Callisto or drop-in)!
3.Visit our 15 minute drop-ins with pre-health peer advisors at Career Center and 3060 VLSB (check our Peer page on the Career Center for hours https://career.berkeley.edu/Peers/Peers.stm)
Workshops and Events
Starting this semester, we are holding many workshops and programs in both fall and spring. The fall programs are geared toward getting ready to apply while the spring programs focus more on the application process. We also have various programs and workshops which you can attend. For a full list please see this page https://career.berkeley.edu/Info/SeriesPreMed.stm. Please RSVP on Callisto so we have an idea of how many students to expect at each program.
Health and Medicine Careermail
A great way to keep updated with the events is by signing up for the Health and Medicine Careermail, which can be accessed through your profile. Check out our weekly mailing list of opportunities for pre-health students by subscribing on your Callisto account. The information we send out ranges from relevant pre-health events to volunteer and internship opportunities for pre-health students. Berkeley is a big place and there’s always events going on so this is a great way to keep yourself informed of programs on campus held by pre-health student organizations, Career Center, or even medical and graduate school representatives. We have thousands of students on the list already and if you haven’t signed up yet, you are really missing out!
Career Center Website’s Pre-med/Pre-health section
Some popular resources on our website include past Berkeley students’ medical school admission statistics, medical school application timeline, and online workshops for writing personal statements and medical school interviews. We are currently in the process of updating our website’s pre-health section to provide more up to date information for students. Feel free to look around and explore the great information we have on the website.
Letter Service
The Letter Service program at Career Center is a resource used by many students who are applying for graduate programs that need letters of recommendation. It is a service for students to save their letters of recommendation for up to 5 years. For more detailed information check our website’s section on Letter Service at https://career.berkeley.edu/letter/letter.stm.
Hopefully this post has helped you become more familiar with the resources the Career Center has to offer in aiding you in your pre-health journey at Cal. Please feel free to come by if you have any questions! Good luck!
